In a pivotal fixture that could shape the NBC Premier League relegation battle, Mashujaa welcome Namungo to Tanganyika Stadium this afternoon.

Mashujaa, currently positioned 15th, faces a critical juncture in their season. The army side, under the stewardship of Abdallah ‘Baresi’ Mohamed, are staring down the barrel of a nervy season finale, with survival in the Premier League hanging in the balance.

The home side are coming into this one without a loss since a 2-1 defeat away to defending Champions Young Africans early last month. This has seen the club go on a four-game unbeaten run including a stunning 3-1 away victory over Geita Gold.

Better yet, they managed to secure  a draw away to a resurgent Ihefu side on Wednesday to move within two points of safety.

This is a big game for Mashujaa and they cannot afford to lose. A win could see them move out of the relegation zone and boost their survival hopes. A victory against Namungo would also narrow the gap between them to a mere two points.

Mashujaa will pin their hopes of victory on Adam Omar Adam. The striker did not manage to find the back of the net against Ihefu but grabbed an assist to take his goal involvement for Mashujaa to nine goals this season in all competitions.

Namungo have faced a challenging beginning to 2024, failing to secure a league victory in the calendar year. They sit above the relegation zone by two points and are within only five points of the struggling Mashujaa in 15th.

On the other hand, three back to back draws away to KMC, JKT Tanzania and Tabora means the team under coach Mwinyi Zahera is yet to register a win since his appointment.

When the two teams met earlier this season, they settled for a goalless stalemate at Majaliwa Stadium in September last year. It was the first topflight game between the two sides.
