Tanzania Prisons host Dodoma Jiji at the Sokoine Stadium in the afternoon hoping to register their first win since early October. Their last victory was a 3-2 home victory against fellow strugglers Mtibwa Sugar.
Having failed to record victory in their previous five games, the side takes on the City Councillors looking to rediscover their winning touch. Three draws and two losses in their last five matches have seen the Mbeya side slide to second bottom side.
Head coach Hamad Ally, who is taking charge of his second game since his appointment, is keen to address the team’s form ahead of an important month, with five fixtures to play before the new year.
He will have to fix the leaking defence. Prisons have conceded 16 goals in ten games, only rock bottom Mtibwa Sugar have let more so far this season. In their last game, they were the better side but somehow a defensive lapse handed Coastal Union all the three points.
Lack of ruthlessness at the other end of the pitch is another issue coach Ally has to fix. Their performances have been generally OK and this is not a team showing signs of losing confidence.
The reaction in Sunday’s second half pointed to that, as they managed to take the game to Coastal Union before shooting themselves in the foot with poor finishing.
A win against Dodoma Jiji could take them out of the relegation zone, as they trailed the 12th-placed Coastal Union by three points and Mashujaa in thirteenth by two points.
Visitors Dodoma Jiji had been on a three match winning run having beaten KMC, Kagera Sugar and JKT Tanzania, but were beaten by Singida Fountain Gate in their last outing. That home loss also ended their five match unbeaten streak that had pushed them to fourth on the table.
Not only are Walima Zabibu looking to move level on points with Singida Fountain Gate, but they are also looking for their third consecutive victory on the road.
