Young Africans head coach Miguel Gamondi poured praise on his dominant side as they maintained their 100 per cent start to the season with a 5-0 win over JKT Tanzania at Chamazi Complex.

Continuing his strong goalscoring start to the campaign,Stephane Azizi Ki set up the tone with a first half stoppage-time goal to break the deadlock for Young Africans. After winning a free-kick on the edge of the box, the Burkina Faso international stepped up and powered a strike into the back of the net.

Going into the second half, Wananchi continued to push forward in search of further goals, and added a second ten minutes after the restart through Kennedy Musonda who connected home a low pass from Nickson Kibabage.

In the 65th minute, Azizi Ki turned provider to Kouassi Attohoula laying down a straight pass for that was curled in by the Ivorian fullback past John Mwanda in the goal posts for JKT Tanzania to make it 3-0.

Max Nzegeli added to the scoresheet, reacting quickly to his initial shot that was punched out  by Mwanda to tap home his third goal in the last two games for Young Africans. He grabbed his second consecutive brace two minutes later to make it five.

Gamondi was delighted with their victorious performance which took them to the top of the standing courtesy of a superior goal difference  over rivals Simba and Azam.

“I think it was a little bit difficult in the first half, JKT Tanzania came with a low block. They tried to cut the rhythm of the game, make fouls and tried to play by keeping the ball. We needed to be patient while defending very well, far from our goal post.”

“We were lucky we scored a goal in the last minute of the first half. We got more confident and the other team opened up a little bit. In the second half we really played great football. We completely dominated the other team. We created chances and scored.”

“I am really happy with the performance of the players, big congratulations to them. I am very happy for Wananchi, they are more than happy.”

After maintaining their good start to the new season, Young Africans will be aiming to continue their fine run of form when they take on Al Merrikh in the CAF Champions League after the international break.

The reigning NBC Premier League champions will  resume their league campaign with their first game on the road against Ihefu on October 4th.
